Job Overview

We are currently seeking a skilled and certified School Year Tutor to work with our students in Paterson, NJ. As a tutor with New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc., you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the educational journey of our students. You will work closely with small groups of students, typically in groups of 1-5, to build on their existing math and literacy skills. Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with students in grades K-8 to build on existing mathematics and/or literacy skills
  • Complete daily records on student progress and site needs using the tools provided
  • Use data to drive instruction and inform teaching practices
  • Communicate regularly with your site coordinator to provide optimum learning experiences for students
  • Participate in coaching from an instructional coach to enhance teaching skills and strategies
  • Use an asset-based approach in working with students, focusing on their strengths and abilities
  • Be responsive and work collaboratively with other tutors and site staff to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • Complete all training and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children, preferably in a learning and teaching capacity
  • Standard certificate, certificate of eligibility (CE), or certificate of eligibility with advanced standing (CEAS) to receive a $40 hourly pay rate
  • New Jersey Certification of Criminal History (fingerprint form)
  • Experience with Google Suite functions, including Google Sheets and Forms
  • Professional skills, including attention to detail, timely and proactive communication, and job preparedness
  • Reliable transportation to travel to sites

Preferred Qualifications

  • Genuine desire to work with young children in a teaching capacity, building on foundational skills and closing learning gaps
  • Strong teaching pedagogy and knowledge of formative and summative data
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other educators and staff to achieve common goals
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
