Job Description

As a Paraprofessional - Special Education Personal Care Assistant (PCA), you will work closely with students with special needs, providing support and guidance to help them achieve their full potential. Your role will involve:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engaging with students and staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Performing instructional support tasks, such as supervision, tutoring, and coaching, to help students meet their academic goals
  • Providing behavioral support, including communicating positive expectations, prompting/signaling, and redirecting, to help students manage their behavior and develop essential life skills
  • Assisting with clerical tasks, such as organizing materials and recording progress and observations, to ensure the smooth operation of the classroom

Qualifications:

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a high school graduate or possess a GED
  • Have completed at least two (2) years of postsecondary study, or
  • Possess an associate's degree or higher, or
  • Complete a series of job-based trainings during the first year of employment, and continuing education credit hours during subsequent years

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding when working with students with special needs
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software and systems
