About Philanthropy Ohio and Its Mission

Philanthropy Ohio unites over 150 philanthropically driven organizations across the state, including private foundations, community foundations, corporate giving programs, government agencies, and others, to encourage their collaboration, learning, and advocacy. The ultimate goal is to help people engaged in philanthropy become more effective partners for change in their communities. Philanthropy Ohio achieves this through its core functions: advocating for policies that bolster the charitable sector and improve Ohio's communities, educating members through curated learning opportunities and resources, convening paths for connection and collaboration, collaborating with government agencies and community stakeholders, and centering equity in all its work.

The Role of the President and CEO

The President and CEO will provide innovative and visionary leadership and day-to-day management of Philanthropy Ohio, reporting to the organization's Board of Trustees. Key responsibilities include:

  • Advocacy and Representation: Advocate and speak for philanthropy in Ohio, representing Philanthropy Ohio with diverse and high-profile audiences, including policymakers, organizations, philanthropists, and other nonprofit leaders.
  • Leadership and Culture: Nurture the culture and values of the organization, ensuring a strong, inclusive, and equitable work environment that supports the well-being and growth of all staff members.
  • Strategic Growth and Development: Develop and implement strategies for sustainable growth, expanding the organization's impact through innovative programs, partnerships, and membership engagement, while ensuring financial stability and resource development.
  • Community Engagement: Cultivate the engagement of the philanthropic community of members, fostering strong relationships with state and federal policymakers, community groups, and other stakeholders to advance the mission of Philanthropy Ohio.

Essential and Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Senior Leadership Experience: Five or more years of experience in senior or executive leadership positions, preferably in a membership association, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.
  • Philanthropy and Nonprofit Sector Knowledge: Strong knowledge of philanthropy, the nonprofit sector, and related public policy issues, with a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by philanthropic organizations.
  • Financial Management and Fundraising: Demonstrated leadership in nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and fundraising, with a proven track record of securing resources and developing sustainable financial models.
  • Equity and Inclusion: A deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, with experience in promoting equitable and inclusive practices in philanthropy and nonprofit management.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

The target base compensation for this role is $140,000-$160,000, coupled with a full benefits package, including:

  • Paid Time Off: 15 days paid vacation, 14 paid holidays, and sick leave.
