Database Administrator (DBA) - (PA, MD and DE State)
About the position BVA Bears IT Solutions is seeking Database Administrators (DBA) for PA, MD area as well as DE area. These positions are full-time, remote role with travel to other Government or Contractor facilities as required in PA, MD and DE. The standard workday consists of 8 hours, scheduled within the window of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, excluding government holidays. Core hours, generally 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., should be covered; however, specific core hours may vary depending on the agency’s requirements.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain enterprise database platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL) within Agile project environments.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) to align database tasks with iterative delivery goals.
- Collaborate with Scrum teams to ensure database design and changes support evolving user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Administer database security, roles, and permissions; enforce leastprivilege access in compliance with Agile DevSecOps practices.
- Monitor performance and availability; provide quick-turnaround tuning and optimization during sprints.
- Manage backup/restore strategies and disaster recovery plans, integrating these into Agile release cycles.
- Support continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for database changes using version control and automation tools.
- Implement and maintain data integration/ETL pipelines aligned with Agile increments and sprint deliverables.
- Automate routine administration tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to improve velocity and reduce manual effort.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations across PA, MD, and DE while adapting to Agile workflows.
- Provide timely updates on database tasks during sprint reviews and maintain transparency through Agile boards (e.g., JIRA).
- Design and maintain logical and physical data models to support application and reporting needs.
- Plan and optimize storage architecture for performance and scalability.
- Participate in DBMS evaluation and selection to meet business and compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3–5+ years of DBA experience in production environments, preferably within Agile or hybrid delivery models.
- Expertise with at least one major RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Strong proficiency in backup/restore, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and security administration.
- Familiarity with Agile principles and experience working in Scrum or Kanban teams.
- Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation and CI/CD integration.
- Knowledge of compliance and audit practices applicable to state agencies.
- Experience supporting Agile DevOps environments (CI/CD, automated deployments).
- Ability to break down large database initiatives into incremental deliverables for sprints.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional Agile teams.
- Familiarity with Agile tools (JIRA, Confluence) for backlog management and documentation.
- Exposure to cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL) and Agile cloud migration projects.
