The Buyer Specialist is the subject matter expert in the IT procurement process and is assigned the Department’s most complex IT contracts, which include but are not limited to: complex IT technology-based contracts, implementation of new initiatives, and cooperative purchasing. These contracts have a significant impact on the Department’s ability to implement the Department’s strategic plan, Department operations, maintain security, and research, recommend and implement innovation in procurement and office processes. The Buyer Specialist also performs specialized tasks, including leading benchmarking efforts to drive and maintain department standardization for central and regional business offices, coordinating internal and external pcard and procurement related audits and reviews. The Buyer Specialist compiles and analyzes data to develop reports for internal and external audiences. Duties include leading the fiscal year end process for all procurement staff. Experience Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Buyer, including two years equivalent to a Buyer P11 or one year equivalent to a Buyer 12. Work Location: This position is located in Lansing, Michigan and will require reporting in person for the first two weeks. After the initial training period, a hybrid work schedule may be approved that will allow work to be performed remotely up to 50% of the time with the other 50% of the work being performed in-person in Lansing. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
