Hotel Equities is a multi-award-winning hotel development and hospitality management company seeking a remarkable Accountant for their Canada Corporate Office in Edmonton, AB. The Accountant will be responsible for centralized accounting functions, ensuring accuracy in property-level accounting activities and supporting month-end and year-end close processes.

Responsibilities

  • Review property-level accounting activities (A/P, A/R, general cashier, and daily reporting) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies
  • Audit daily cash reports and reconciliations prepared by the property, ensuring deposits and balances are properly recorded
  • Monitor and review vendor activity, including reconciliation of key accounts and investigation of discrepancies
  • Ensure all recurring and outstanding invoices are recorded by the property and reflected accurately in the financials
  • Post monthly brand reimbursements and other corporate-level entries
  • Perform full month-end close, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules in accordance with financial deadlines
  • Conduct variance analysis and investigate significant fluctuations in financial results
  • Support year-end close processes and external audits, including preparation of required documentation and responding to audit inquiries
  • Partner with hotel operations teams and ownership groups to ensure financial accuracy and provide guidance on accounting matters
  • Identify process gaps and drive improvements to enhance consistency, accuracy, and timeliness across properties

Skills

  • Accounting diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with hotel operations teams, ownership groups, and internal stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, documenting processes, and responding to inquiries
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues and recommend practical solutions
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed, particularly during month-end and year-end close, or for urgent projects
