Manager, Engineering - Data and AI Architecture

Job Summary:

We are seeking an exceptional Manager, Engineering - Data and AI Architecture to lead the design, build, test, and maintenance of large-scale data pipelines and AI architectures at FedEx. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading a team of data architects, data scientists, and engineers to drive business results through data-driven solutions. You will work closely with executive leadership, business architects, and stakeholders to ensure that data and AI initiatives align with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Architectural Design:

  • Design and implement optimal data and AI architectures using open-source and commercial tools.
  • Lead the modernization of platform, data, and application data architectures, transitioning legacy systems to cloud-native solutions.
  • Ensure security, reliability, and maintainability of data and AI infrastructure.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for senior leadership.

Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of data architects, data scientists, and engineers.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the data and AI team.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in creating reusable data and AI services.

Technology Partnerships:

  • Evaluate and select data and AI technologies and platforms.
  • Manage relationships with technology partners and vendors.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure data-driven solutions align with business priorities.

Data Governance:

  • Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures.
  • Prioritize ethical AI implementation, safeguarding against security threats, and ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Champion best practices for data security, governance, and compliance.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics or Engineering.

Experience:

  • Seven (7) years equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development, and/or predictive analytics.
  • Extensive knowledge in data engineering and machine learning frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of the transportation industry, competitors, and evolving technologies.

Skills:

  • Expertise in Azure services, Databricks, relational databases, document stores, key value stores, streaming and messaging systems, Lakehouse architecture, data warehouses, ETL pipelines, and AI/ML frameworks.
  • Strong experience with Azure cloud-based data architectures.
  • Proven experience modernizing legacy data systems.
  • Deep knowledge of integrating AI models into existing data infrastructures.
  • Expertise in data governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
