Manager, Engineering - Data and AI Architecture
Job Summary:
We are seeking an exceptional Manager, Engineering - Data and AI Architecture to lead the design, build, test, and maintenance of large-scale data pipelines and AI architectures at FedEx. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading a team of data architects, data scientists, and engineers to drive business results through data-driven solutions. You will work closely with executive leadership, business architects, and stakeholders to ensure that data and AI initiatives align with organizational goals.Key Responsibilities:
Architectural Design:
- Design and implement optimal data and AI architectures using open-source and commercial tools.
- Lead the modernization of platform, data, and application data architectures, transitioning legacy systems to cloud-native solutions.
- Ensure security, reliability, and maintainability of data and AI infrastructure.
- Translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for senior leadership.
Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of data architects, data scientists, and engineers.
- Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the data and AI team.
- Lead cross-functional teams in creating reusable data and AI services.
Technology Partnerships:
- Evaluate and select data and AI technologies and platforms.
- Manage relationships with technology partners and vendors.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure data-driven solutions align with business priorities.
Data Governance:
- Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures.
- Prioritize ethical AI implementation, safeguarding against security threats, and ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Champion best practices for data security, governance, and compliance.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics or Engineering.
Experience:
- Seven (7) years equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development, and/or predictive analytics.
- Extensive knowledge in data engineering and machine learning frameworks.
- Strong understanding of the transportation industry, competitors, and evolving technologies.
Skills:
- Expertise in Azure services, Databricks, relational databases, document stores, key value stores, streaming and messaging systems, Lakehouse architecture, data warehouses, ETL pipelines, and AI/ML frameworks.
- Strong experience with Azure cloud-based data architectures.
- Proven experience modernizing legacy data systems.
- Deep knowledge of integrating AI models into existing data infrastructures.
- Expertise in data governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
